Shilpa’s Fitness Mantra is - #stayHealthyStayHappy / #swasthRahoMastRaho. Along with some simple believes about Being Fit and to Stay healthy.

1. “Avoid myths, adapt healthy habits!

In Shilpa’s The Great Indian diet Book she busts some health myths which we have been carrying it for so long. According to Shilpa

·                Make Ghee (clarified butter) your friend as ghee is natural and it’s free of potentially unhealthy additives, preservatives and trans fats. Ghee also helps in moisturize dry skin and hair. Ghee works as a topical moisturizer to relieve dry complexions and application on the scalp fights with dryness and encourages the growth of thick, lustrous hair.

Myth about ghee – “Ghee results in rise of serum cholesterol levels when compared to edible oil

“I have a tablespoon of ghee everyday for lunch and I cannot tell you how important it can be for your health and vitalit”- Says Shilpa

·                Coconut oil has super strengths:

Myth – Coconut oil is high in saturated fats – about 50 percent more than butter. And it levels-up the cholesterol rate.

According to Shilpa – “It doesn’t have to be ingested, just put a teaspoon in your mouth and it begins to work on your brains since it emits ketones” because the MCTs in coconut oil break down into ketones which can be used by brain cells for fuel. As under normal circumstances brain use glucose for energy. So here is the back-up plan.

3. Yoga Believer!

According to Shilpa, due to her neck problem she took up yoga and since then there has been no locking back. She was doing general yoga earlier and started Ashtanga Yoga for a long time soon she realized that “yoga targets mind, body and soul at one go”. It opens all the windows to the body, just through breathing alone and most of your problems are taken care of.

“Yoga did not just help me with my body, I became fitter from within. It helped me to focus better. In the movies, we may look very glamourous and fit, but believe me, not many of us are actually fit from within. Yoga has helped me achieve that”

In an interview talking about the importance of yoga in her life she said-

“I joined Yoga to heal myself when I suffered cervical spondylitis, a few years back, and I just got drawn to it. I started practicing Ashtanga Yoga and once I tried that, I wanted to learn more about different forms of yoga. So, I did Vinyasa and now I’ve started doing Bihar School of Yoga. But the benefits are the same. All kinds of yoga practices help in strengthening and toning your body – both internally and externally,” she says. Yoga is the only form of exercise that gives you a strong body and sound mind. So, why not? Shilpa combines yoga with a bit of functional training and animal crawl which is her latest fitness mantra to make her daily routine”

·                Discipline Is Your Key To Success!

Being disciplined and following a schedule is very important step towards becoming fit. Sleeping for right hours, eating well, exercising regularly are few of the things that one should be very particular of in order to stay fit and healthy.

Shilpa who has launched her fitness DVDs in the past, advices people to wake up early and avoid alcohol and cigarettes. “Discipline is important; eat a balanced diet, have fresh food and avoid aerated drinks, if you cannot exercise every day, just go for a brisk walk” says Shilpa.

“People suffer from many lifestyle related diseases which can be cured simply by inculcating healthy habits” she added

4. Importance Of Diet!

Shilpa’s view of dieting is practical and easy to sustain, she believes in eating healthy food that tastes good. She is a foodie but manages to stay away from junk as she learnt to enjoy the taste of fresh healthy, organic food.

She starts her day with a glass of warm water to clean her body toxins, she basically eats two breakfasts. She does not believe in starving herself.

She starts with a fruit smoothie and always try to have low sugar as possible and use natural sweeteners like honey or coconut sugar and eggs in between, she likes to mix eggs with good fat items like avocados or whole wheat bread with butter. For dinner she only eats salad, soup, and chicken, but enjoys brown rice and chapatis with a lot of veggies for lunch. And she always carries some dry fruits for her instant cravings.

“I've never believed in dieting, but there are people out there who have problems. My advice would be don't ever stop yourself to a point where you start craving something, because you end up bingeing. I think the key word is moderation”

·                Hit To The Floor!

The more you enjoy your exercise routine, the more likely you are to stick with it. Many people say they have so much fun while dancing that they forget they are actually exercising.

Along with maintaining a good cardiovascular respiratory system, Zumba even makes your body release endorphins which trigger positive feelings throughout the body.

Shilpa believes that Zumba is one of the best ways to lose weight and tone your body. Along with practicing Zumba herself, Shilpa even uploads her Zumba videos on her YouTube channel.

Turning your attention to dance, and away from the daily grind, is a great way to relieve stress as well. Studies show that exercise is very effective at improving alertness and concentration, and overall cognitive function.  In Zumba, your arms and legs are generally moving in different directions so it requires a good deal of coordination.  Repeated practice improves coordination and helps you feel more comfortable moving your body.

Living with my mom and mother-in-law in this lockdown, I’ve realised that bodies react differently to stress and physical activity after 50, then they do when younger. As we reach and cross a certain age, our bodies demand activities that help us stay active and agile especially now they need that extra ‘care’. Hence, I decided to launch my latest program for 50-year olds and above on the @TheShilpaShettyApp ‘20-minute Yoga for Joint Pain’ & ‘10-minute Yoga for Back Pain’. These are designed to help improve blood circulation and flexibility, reduce joint pain, and condition the spine to improve body posture. Stay fit and active even while you’re at home.
If you have anyone in your family that needs this, please head to my stories, to download the app now” – wrote Shilpa
